Herot is a small town in the US state of Minnesota. In the 2000 Census Herot had a total population of 9,423, and 8,119 according to 2009 estimates.
Originally the site of a trading post established by Norwegian trappers, Herot became a site of note in the late 1870s when speculators discovered small iron and copper deposits in the region. The brief mining boom that struck the area quickly ended, however, as the Herot Mine played itself out by the beginning of the 20th Century
Herot is widely considered to be a town in decline, with a median income of $26,500US and a rapidly shrinking population.
